
Updated March 31, 2020:
- Discontinuance of All Short-term Rental Operations: All rental agencies (including but not limited to Airbnb, VRBO and any other similar entity) and property owners that rent properties on Town of Oak Island (including hotels and motels) are instructed to have all current renters, with a rental period of less than 90 days’ duration, and their invitees vacate the premises and leave the Town no later than 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. Effective immediately, there will be no new rental occupancies of any kind or duration allowed within the Town of Oak Island. These prohibitions and restrictions apply to vacation rentals, short term rentals, bed and breakfast establishments, Air BNB, VRBO, hotels, motels, inns and similar businesses and establishments.
- Individuals and entities renting within the Town for purposes directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic or related to providing other essential public services are exempted from the prohibition contained in Paragraph 1.
- The following restrictions and prohibitions are hereby imposed: a) All estuary, sound side, inlet and ocean beaches within the Town are closed to all persons. Access to all beaches including, but not limited to, wet and dry public trust strands is prohibited with noncompliance enforceable as a trespass and as otherwise authorized by General Statute 166A. b) All public beach parking areas are closed. c) All public beach accesses are closed. This includes but is not limited to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic, bicycles, scooters, or any other mode of transportation; d) All Town parks are closed. e) All Town recreational facilities are closed; f) All right-of-way parking is prohibited; g) All public boat ramps and associated public parking areas are closed. h) All public kayak launches and associated public parking areas are closed. i) All public street end parking areas, docks, piers and public accesses and all associated public parking areas are closed.
- **The restrictions contained in this Paragraph 2 do not apply to government employees, agents, officials or contractors exercising the duties of their office in the enforcement of this Declaration, the enforcement of all Executive Orders issued by the Governor of the State of North Carolina, the provision of emergency services or essential public services.
- The Town urges that all travel be limited to essential travel for property owners and residents, business owners and their respective employees and contractors, and municipal employees and contractors.5) Town Operations: The Town Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to take all lawful actions necessary to manage the Town during this State of Emergency, including, without limitation, procuring goods and services necessary to manage this emergency including but not limited to the adjustment of hours, access, and operation of all government operations, Town-owned facilities, roads, rights-of-way, and parks, as deemed reasonably necessary to restrict the spread of COVID-19 and protect Town residents, the public and municipal employees.
- I and the Town Council further strongly encourage everyone to comply with all CDC and Brunswick County Health Department guidelines, including limiting groups to no more than ten (10) people, limiting activities in public and maintaining at least six (6) feet of distance from other people as well as comply with the Executive Orders issued by the Governor of the State of North Carolina.
As many of you know the governor has issued a Stay-at-Home Order for North Carolina. Some of you have asked what does this mean for our area? We are here to break it down for you.
- Stay at home unless you have to leave for an essential activity. Essential activities include traveling for health and safety, obtaining necessary supplies or services, going outside for outdoor activity while staying 6 feet away from others and avoiding gatherings of 10 or more people.
- Essential workers may travel for work, included essential workers include health and human services, construction and maintenance crews, grocery stores, agriculture-based operations, food and beverage products that offer carry-out or delivery, and gas station workers. - Social Distancing orders still apply which means maintaining a 6-foot distance from others. Washing your hands as often as possible for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, and or using hand sanitizer. Clean high traffic surfaces often with a sanitizing product.
- Individual towns have also issued their own regulations to govern their ordinance’s needs.
- These implementations will be upheld until April 30, 2020.
